Using Technology to Your Benefit During Your Pittsburgh Divorce

By: Lisa Marie Vari

Going through a divorce in Pennsylvania? Apples iTunes Store offers a variety of divorce applications to download for your iPhone or iPad to help with understanding what property and financial assets you and your spouse have prior to and after separation. Besides having a divorce attorney on your side, these sorts of applications may be something beneficial for you to help you during the often complicated divorce process.

To highlight one application, iSplit Divorce Pro is an apparently highly functional app with versions for both consumers and attorneys. The app allows you to take images of all of your assets and assign them to either your side or your spouse's side (depending if they were pre-martial or non-marital assets), there is also a box in the middle of the screen that allows you to place marital assets that need to be divided. On the side of the screen there is a list mode showing the assets as well. You can also list all marital debt.

Once you have listed all your assets, you can then adjust the "allocation" slider to reflect how much you or your spouse are to receive of it. Once you have figured out a proposed allocation of all of your assets, the program will configure the numbers into a message form, "generating the iSplit." These numbers will reflect the amount of asset and debt each person has and display their net value.

Apps like this can be very helpful when going into an initial consultation with a family attorney. They give you a better idea of what you have and what you think you should keep. Having this ideas down is very important because it gives you goals and lets you keep track of what is truly important to you, without losing sight of getting through your divorce quickly and efficiently.

Though these applications are great, they are no substitute for an experience Pennsylvania family law attorney. An app alone can only do so much, but if you get the guidance of an attorney and use the app when necessary, the divorce process may be much smoother than you imagined.
