Celebrity News: Pennsylvania Divorce of Channing Tatum

By now you have probably heard of the split of actor Channing Tatum from his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Under Pennsylvania's divorce laws and Pennsylvania's custody laws what's at stake for the couple?

In terms of their assets a lot will depend on whether Channing and Jenna signed a prenuptial agreement. A Pennsylvania prenup would preempt some of the soon to be ex-couples' arguments about assets and who gets what in the divorce. Without a prenup the couple would have to go through the process of what is known as equitable distribution in Pennsylvania - dividing up the marital assets and debts between spouses.

What about child custody? Channing and Jenna are the parents of a young daughter. When parents have worked out a custody arrangment themselves, like Channing and Jenna seem to be doing so far, a Pennsylvania custody agreement should be filed with the court. This agreement becomes a Pennsylvania consent order and will prevent either parent from unilaterally changing the custody arrangement on the other parent. When parents don't agree to custody they should each hire an experienced Pennsylvania family law attorney who can be there to provide them with sound legal advice and guide them through the custody process.
