Comedian Amy Poehler Opens Up About Her Divorce

One of Hollywood’s funniest actresses, Amy Poehler, best known for her work on Saturday Night Live and Parks & Recreation, and her husband of 10 years and fellow actor, Will Arnett, divorced earlier this year. After a 19 month period of separation, Arnett filed the divorce papers in April of this year. In today’s blog, your Pennsylvania Celebrity Divorce Lawyers discuss this latest Hollywood divorce.

For the most part, Poehler was quiet about her divorce, hoping to keep it out of the media spot light. The process of a divorce can be painful and adding the extra burden of having to deal with media wanting to know every detail about the case makes the process that much more painful. Despite her silence during the almost 2 years since her separation, Poehler recently opened up about the divorce and her post-divorce life.

In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Poehler described the process of divorce as follows, “Imagine spreading everything you care about on a blanket and then tossing the whole thing up in the air. The process of divorce is about loading that blanket, throwing it up, watching it all spin, and worrying what stuff will break when it lands.”

She continued by saying, “When you are a person going through a divorce you feel incredibly alone, yet you are constantly reminded by society of how frequently divorce happens and how common it has become. You aren’t allowed to feel special, but no one knows the specific ways you are in pain.”

Despite the divorce being tough on her, Poehler is happy about how she and Arnett have handled the situation, particularly when it comes to their two young sons. In that same interview she said, “I am proud of how my ex-husband Will and I have been taking care of our children. I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don’t think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure.”
